📜Invited by the Burgas branch of Sofia University “St. Kliment Ohridski,” on October 20th (Friday), the beloved polar explorer Prof. Hristo Pimpirev will be in the coastal city to present his book “The Antarctic Tramp.” Burgas residents will have the opportunity to hear priceless memories, views, stories, and firsthand facts at the Regional Library “Peyo K. Yavorov” starting from 5:30 PM. Admission is free, and everyone is welcome.
Most Bulgarians have heard the name Hristo Pimpirev and remember the smiling professor from the television screen. They know about the expeditions and our Antarctic base, the difficulties faced by our polar explorers, and the successes achieved on the Ice Continent every year. But who is the man behind the broad smile? How did he manage to turn his personal dream into state policy and for decades create a positive image of Bulgaria worldwide? What motivates and inspires him, giving him the strength to move forward unwaveringly?
Prof. Pimpirev gathers the answers to these questions between the covers of a true adventure book, with the help of the photographer and journalist Iglika Trifonova. She is one of the hundreds of women in polar science and education, a participant in five Bulgarian expeditions to Antarctica.
The meeting with the two inspirers is realized with the support of the Municipality of Burgas.
