The national Bulgarian chess team for women became a European champion!
Nurgyul Salimova from the chess club “Burgas 64” was part of the team. The other champions are Antoaneta Stefanova, Gergana Peycheva, Beloslava Krasteva, and Victoria Radeva. Our team won all of their matches in Budva-Montenegro. In the last round, they competed against the Georgian team, and with a score of 2,5 to 1,5 points, they deservedly won the championship title.
The competitor from “Burgas 64” Nurgyul Salimova, with coach Zhivko Zhekov, also received the individual gold award by becoming No. 1 on the second board with 6,5 points (4 wins and 5 draws).
The Bulgarian champions demonstrated growth, high morale, and masterful performances.
“This is a great success. It will help Bulgaria win many high achievements internationally. Bulgaria is now an important team in chess. I’m happy for Nurgyul, who was second in the International Chess Competition in August. She has now confirmed that she is an amazing player that hugely contributed to the European title.” said Salimova’s coach in “Burgas 64” Zhivko Zhekov.
Recently, Burgas grandmaster Milen Vasilev became the president of the Bulgarian Chess Federation.
