The Bulgarian Telegraph Agency (BTA), in partnership with the European Parliament, is organizing training for young journalists from national and regional media outlets in Bulgaria on topics related to European institutions, with a focus on the European Parliament.
The training program aims to acquaint young journalists with the functioning of the Community institutions, European policies, and their implementation in the member states, based on the values of the Union.
Key details of the training program are as follows:
The first training took place in April 2023, involving ten journalists.
The second training is scheduled to be held on November 6, 7, and 8, 2023, at BTA, Sofia. The program will feature leading experts in European affairs and experienced journalists as lecturers, including Prof. Ingrid Shikova, Assoc. Prof. Ivan Nachev, Assoc. Prof. Georgi Lozanov, Assoc. Prof. Ralitsa Kovacheva, Dr. Purvan Simeonov, Nikolay Zhelyazkov, and Iva Toncheva. The training will also involve Bulgarian MEPs and representatives of the Bureau of the European Parliament in Bulgaria.
The training program consists of two modules: a national module and a European module.
- The national module will cover general knowledge about European institutions through presentations, lectures, and discussions, with specific media work related to the legislative priorities of the European Parliament.
- The European module includes training sessions in the European Parliament in Brussels for two out of the ten participants, selected based on their performance during the national training.
Participants who successfully complete the program will receive a certificate from the Bureau of the European Parliament in Sofia.
This training is intended for young journalists currently working in national and regional media outlets in Bulgaria who wish to develop the skills necessary to communicate about Europe in an accessible manner and bring European topics closer to the citizens. Freelance journalists are also eligible to apply. The program is open to other media professionals, such as content creators for social media, multimedia managers, television producers, and data specialists, provided their participation is justified and in the interest of the European Parliament.
Applicants are required to have completed higher education or professional training, possess no more than three years of professional experience since completing their education, work for national or local media in Bulgaria at the time of applying, and have a working proficiency in the English language.
